About Us

Your local builders and renovation specialists in North Shore & Central Auckland.
Generation Builders was founded because we were tired of hearing of builders overcharging for projects or leaving without finishing the job. We care about the projects that we get involved in and we’re here to work with you to understand your needs, keep within your budget, and deliver what you want for a realistic price.
We know that renovating your existing house or building a new home can seem like a daunting process, but that’s exactly what we do every day. From the design phase to deciding on the finishing touches, we’ve seen it all before and can guide you through the process to make it as stress-free and easy as possible. Our local team of well-rounded builders are fuelled by a desire to consistently deliver projects to a high standard, with an emphasis on collaboration and detail.
With over 10 years of experience in the building industry and project management, we specialise in home renovations, bespoke new builds, and small home alterations tailored to your exact requirements. Whether you have plans of your own or need some drawn up, we’ll work with you every step of the way to deliver your project in a professional and structured manner.
Every project is led by a Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) and we are rigorous when it comes to critiquing our work – if it’s not good enough to be in our homes, it’s not good enough to be in yours. We also verify that all tradespeople and sub-contractors involved – whether recommended by yourself or carefully selected by us – are fully qualified or trained and can provide the documentation required to satisfy the consents process.
As a family-owned business, we’re keen advocates of apprenticeships. We support the training and development of the next generation of builders with apprenticeships through BCITO and offer opportunities for them to learn, grow, and progress. The majority of our apprentices stay with us after completing their training and become part of the family at Generation Builders.

Call us on 0800 122 141 to get a quote or discuss your project.

Open Book Pricing Policy:
We are keen advocates of open-book pricing to ensure the final cost of your project is reflective of the actual cost of materials and job completed in a way that is fair to both parties.
Our Process

Here is an overview of the process we use to help our clients create their dream homes and guarantee success

Whether you have plans of your own or need some drawn up, we’ll work with you every step of the way to deliver your home renovation project or new build in a professional and structured manner. Here is an overview of the process we use to help our clients create their dream homes and guarantee success.

We’ll get things started by organising a time to talk or meet to discuss and understand your dreams, wants, needs, ideas, budgets, and timeframes. Once we understand your budget and goals, we’ll explain upfront whether you can realistically achieve your project within your budget. This prevents you from spending thousands of dollars on the design process only to find that you can’t afford to complete the project.
If you don’t have an architect or plans already drawn up, we’ll organise a time for you to meet with a design team we feel best suits your project. You’ll have the opportunity to sit down and discuss your ideas and goals directly with the architect. After your consultation, the design team will go away and put together an independent fees proposal and a tender for the design process.
If you accept the tender, we’ll work with the design team to ensure the design and scope are aligned with your budget and goals and provide input from a construction point of view to save on costs where possible. This protects you from a budget blowout or plans that do not match what you want.
Once the concept drawings are completed, we’ll engage an independent quantity surveyor to go through the project and provide high-level costings for the project using industry-standard rates. This allows us to ensure the concept plans are in the right ballpark in terms of cost.
Together we’ll meet with the architect who will present the concept plans and a breakdown of the estimated costs. At this stage, we can make adjustments to the concept plans without overly affecting the price of the design package.
Once the concept plans and budget get your approval, the architect will go ahead and start the work drawings and prepare the documentation required for Council (if building consent or resource consent is required).

While your application is with Council, we’ll tender out to the sub-trades needed for the project e.g. Painter, Plasterer, Electrician, Plumber etc and put together a proposal of our costings. We’ll meet with you to go present our proposal and ensure you fully understand the costings and scope of the project.

After the building contract is signed and the building consent is approved, we’ll agree on a start date.

We’ll provide you with a schedule of works and estimated timeframe and then begin construction. We’ll be there every step of the way to offer advice and hold your hand (if you need it). Depending on the project, we’ll sit down and introduce you to a professional colour consultant, kitchen modeller, and interior designer, and then send you off to Harvey Norman where we can get you some good deals.

We hand the keys over and let you enjoy your new home, bathroom, kitchen, or outdoor living area!
